The 2017 Western & Southern Open in 10 tweets

From wild weather to a first-time ATP World Tour Masters 1000 champion, our twitter account served up all the best of the action from Cincinnati last week.

1. After the withdrawal of the injured Roger Federer, the week kicked off with confirmation of Rafa Nadal’s incredible return to World No.1.

2. But Roger’s absence didn’t stop us from re-living one of his finest Cincinnati moments: the birth of the ‘SABR’.

3. The first big story on court came courtesy of promising American #NextGenATP star Frances Tiafoe…

4. Dating back to 1899, the event has produced some golden moments – and Michael Stich served up one of the most memorable 22 years ago.

5. The 2017 staging of the event wasn’t without its challenges, however. This was the scene midweek…

6. The enigmatic Nick Kyrgios produced his brilliant best to blow away Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals in one of the performances of the week.

7. And after a semi-final win over a resurgent David Ferrer, the Australian was then entertaining us in the interview room.

8. It was Grigor Dimitrov who grasped his opportunity with both hands though to win his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title without the loss of a set.

9. Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert left with the doubles trophy – their second Masters 1000 title in as many weeks after ruling in Montreal.

10. But the week will be remembered for two of the entertainers of the ATP World Tour – champion Grigor Dimitrov and the truly explosive Nick Kyrgios.
