Located in the capital city of the United States of America, the Citi Open at the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park takes place during the summer tour of North America. Recognised as one of the top events on the ATP Tour, the tournament started in 1969 as one of the first professional tennis tournaments held in the United States. Becoming an ATP Tour 500 event in 2009, the Citi Open then became a joint ATP-WTA event in 2012. Alexander Zverev won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018, before Nick Kyrgios triumphed in 2019.
